President Donald Trump commented on the World Cup soccer tournament on Wednesday, revealing that one of his sons was a fan of the sport.
“My son loves soccer and he loves watching the World Cup, and they have really done a fantastic job with the World Cup,” Trump said, presumably talking about his son Barron.
Barron joined the D.C. United soccer club’s U-12 team and development academy in 2017, according to reports.
He also made headlines after he was spotted wearing an Arsenal football shirt.
The president said that the tournament is “exciting” — “even if you are a non-soccer fan.”
“I’m a soccer fan a little bit, but I don’t have much time,” he said.
Trump said he was pleased that North America was chosen to host the World Cup tournament in 2026.
“I will tell you we fought very hard to get it here,” he said. “We were honored to be chosen.”
