MAGA candidates across Wisconsin, Missouri, and Pennsylvania have lambasted their Democratic incumbents for revealing their “true colors” and supporting open borders immigration policies.
In Charleston, West Virginia, West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey released a statement on Wednesday calling on Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) to drop his sponsorship of Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D-CA) legislation that would open the borders and grant free entry to illegal immigrants.
Attorney General Morrisey said:
Joe Manchin is putting the interest of illegal immigrant criminals and the agenda of liberal Washington elites ahead of West Virginia families. Washington Democrats and Joe Manchin are offering drug cartels, gangs, and child traffickers a one-way ticket into our country with their open-borders legislation.
Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) noted that the Feinstein legislation would “essentially prevent arrest within 100 miles of the border, even if the person has committed a serious crime or is suspected of terrorist activities.”
Republican candidates for Senate have seized upon a popular issue for the GOP base. A Morning Consult poll released on Wednesday revealed that 65 percent of Republican voters support the Trump administration’s policies on asylum seekers, while only 20 percent of Democrats support the policy.
When Breitbart News reached out to Sen. Manchin’s office for comment, they pivoted towards his original statement, expressing concern over Donald Trump administration’s border policies.
Morrisey continued:
Joe Manchin must drop his sponsorship of this dangerous proposal and work with Republicans and President Trump to secure our border, stop the left’s open-border policies, while establishing a humane process to keep families together. Families should, of course, be kept together but the Manchin-Feinstein bill incentivizes illegal and life-threatening activity at the same time.
Rancher and state auditor Matt Rosendale chided Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) for supporting open borders policy in a statement on Wednesday, saying:
By backing the Feinstein bill, Senator Tester is putting into law the failed and dangerous policy of catch and release and bringing us closer to enacting the far-left’s open border agenda. At the end of the day, Tester’s not for enforcing our laws, he wants to let illegal immigrants flow freely into this country without consequence. He’s for protecting illegal immigrants and giving them sanctuary in cities across our nation. This isn’t just dangerous, it’s unacceptable. I don’t want to see families separated so that’s why we need to get tough and enforce our laws. We need to bring law and order back to this country, secure our border, and build that wall.
“We have an obligation to put America first — not illegal immigrants,” Rosendale added.
Marine veteran and businessman Kevin Nicholson, who hopes to unseat Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) in the 2018 midterm election, slammed the Democratic incumbent for pushing “catch and release” border policies that put children at risk.
Nicholson said in a statement on Tuesday:
As a father I feel great concern any time I see a child crying out of fear or desperation, anywhere in the world.
In this case, I’m also angry with the many entrenched Washington politicians – like Tammy Baldwin – who have worked mightily to encourage the “catch and release” illegal immigration policies that put innocent children in this position in the first place.
“We must stop illegal immigration by securing our southern border,” Nicholson added. The Wisconsin veteran added that he supports Sen. Ted Cruz’s legislation that would expedite hearings and processing within 14 days, which would either allow for either quick asylum or deportations. “Families should be kept together while that happens,” Nicholson said.
Rep. Lou Barletta (R-PA), who hopes to defeat Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA), praised Casey for “showing his true colors as a supporter of this dangerous open border policy” after Casey cosponsored the Feinstein bill.
Barletta said in a statement on Tuesday:
The Feinstein bill that Bob Casey supports would essentially require “catch and release,” where individuals who break the law and enter our country illegally would be released from custody simply because they come with a child. This flawed proposal encourages people to bring children on a long and dangerous journey to the United States, making our illegal immigration problem worse. Instead of endorsing catch and release, Congress could override the Flores Settlement so we can detain families together while they await expedited hearings.
Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley criticized Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) for “supporting legislation … that will essentially allow any illegal immigrant who brings a child with him to escape into the interior of the country — no questions asked.”
Florida Gov. Rick Scott attacked Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) for doing nothing to fix America’s borders and broken immigration system for 40 years. Nelson also signed on to the Feinstein open borders legislation.
“Now Bill Nelson has signed on to a bill in the Senate which would make ‘catch and release’ our new law at the border. This extremely liberal idea is a recipe for an open border,” Scott said in a statement on Tuesday.
Scott then said, “Bill Nelson favors open borders; I favor securing our border. Bill Nelson favors ‘catch and release;’ I favor ‘catch and send back.’ So yes, there’s a legitimate disagreement.”
