After the May 23 illegal immigration roundtable in Bethpage, New York, Trump diverted from boarding Marine One to meet local law enforcement officers.
In a video tweeted by White House Social Media Director and Assistant to the President Dan Scavino Jr., Trump breaks from his escort to jog over to a waiting line of police officers from the New York State Police and the Nassau County Police Department:
“@POTUS @realDonaldTrump loves our law enforcement officers all around the country,” Scavino wrote, “as seen here with @NYSPolice and @NassauCountyPD on his way to Marine One in Bethpage, New York. #LESM”
The response was immediate and effusive. “This is true leadership,” said one reply. “I adore this about him,” said another user. “He truly respects and cares about our law enforcement officers.” Others, predictably, were less kind. Some accused him of only “loving” the law enforcement not investigating him, or merely using the officers for a photo op.
At the time of this writing, the video has already been viewed almost 385,000 times, with nearly 12,000 likes and 4,000 retweets.
