White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said Tuesday that it was up to Republican members of Congress to decide whether or not Speaker Paul Ryan should remain in his position — even though he announced his decision to step down after the midterm elections.
“At this point, that’s something for Speaker Ryan and members of Congress to make that determination, not something that the White House has weighed into at this point,” Sanders said.
Sanders commented on the issue in response to a question from Breitbart News in the White House press briefing, whether President Donald J. Trump backed Ryan’s decision.
Republicans are growing restless after the farm bill failed last week and other members tried to force a vote on amnesty for children of illegal immigrants. Conservative Republicans want Ryan to call a vote on tougher legislation in response to the growing number of illegal immigrants apprehended at the southern border.
