The good guy with a gun who shot an alleged shooter at Illinois’ Dixon High School has been identified as Mark Dallas.
Dallas is a school resource officer.
Breitbart News reported that an alleged gunman was spotted on Dixon High School campus around 8 a.m. on Wednesday. WRAL reported that the alleged gunman was confronted by an armed resource officer, and Dixon city manager Danny Langloss said the alleged gunman fired at the officer. The officer responded in kind, striking the alleged gunman.
ABC7 reports that Dallas was the resource officer and the alleged gunman was “19-year-old Matt Milby,” a former student. Dallas was not harmed in the exchange of gunfire, but Milby received non-life-threatening injuries.
Dixon Police Chief Steven Howell Jr. praised Dallas, saying, “I could not be more proud of the police officer and the way he responded to the situation. While shots were ringing out through the hallways of the school, he charged towards the suspect and confronted him head on.”
Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner (R) also lauded Dallas:
The alleged gunman’s mom indicated that “her son was ostracized at school and left to finish his credits outside of class.” She said, “I know that he’s been very sad for a long time. Well, my kid is laying up at the hospital shot. Thank god they didn’t kill him, that’s a blessing. Thank god he didn’t kill anyone else.”
