President Donald Trump commented on the ongoing fight against Boko Haram and radical Islamic terrorists in Africa, despite his successful efforts to fight the Islamic State in the Middle East.
“We have very much decimated ISIS … but Boko Haram has been terrible,” he said.
Trump made his remarks to reporters during a meeting with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari at the White House on Monday.
In 2016, Boko Haram split. One group renamed themselves as the Islamic State in West Africa, seizing territory in countries like Nigeria.
“It’s a hotbed, and we’re going to to be stopping that,” Trump said, referring to the ongoing terrorist activity in the region.
Trump said he was also concerned about Christians getting killed in Nigeria and would continue to work on the problem.
Some groups have estimated that at least 16,000 Christians have been killed in Nigeria since June 2015, mostly due to violence from radical Islamic terrorists.
