Rep. Mike Conaway (R-TX) joined SiriusXM hosts Matt Boyle and Amanda House on Breitbart News Sunday to discuss various topics, including former FBI Director James Comey’s new book, A Higher Loyalty.
Conaway (R-TX), a senior member of the House Intelligence Committee, said he has no “real interest” in reading the book, and has lost all respect for the former FBI Director.
“I’m probably going to be one of those folks who, if someone will give me a copy of Comey’s book, I’ll look through it, but I’m not going to spend my own money on it,” Conaway told Boyle and House.
Conaway recalled how Comey had testified before the House Intelligence Committee in March 2017, railing against leaks – only to later become a leaker himself by creating memos of his private conversations with Trump and giving them to a friend to give to the New York Times.
“You know, this is a guy who in March of ’17 came in front of our committee, just railed against leaks, and railed against that kind of stuff, and how awful it was,” Conaway said.
“And then in April or May, whenever it was, didn’t have the backbone to stand up and hand out his memos on his own – he had to give them to a professor and try to hide behind it, and that just, to me, I lost a lot of respect — all respect, quite frankly, for Comey,” he said.
Conaway said through his work on the House Intelligence Committee, he had been working with Comey for a long time, and had considered him to be a “guy who I thought was doing good stuff.”
“But if his core value was to release those memos that way, as opposed to standing up, taking the heat for it, say, ‘Here are the memos and I wrote them and I may not have supposed to let these out, but I’m going to do it in the interest of the country ’cause I’ll take the heat for it’ — he didn’t do that. He snuck it out through some professor or whatever,” he said.
“I have no real interest in reading Mr. Comey’s book,” he added.
