Former Attorney General and Chairman of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, Eric Holder, is vowing to “litigate to stop” President Trump from counting United States citizens on the 2020 Census.
After Trump’s Commerce Department announced late on Monday that it would put the citizenship question back on the U.S. Census — a question that has not been included since 1950 — Holder’s left-wing organization has said they will try to block the administration from counting citizens.
Holder said in a statement:
We will litigate to stop the Administration from moving forward with this irresponsible decision. The addition of a citizenship question to the census questionnaire is a direct attack on our representative democracy. This question will lower the response rate and undermine the accuracy of the count, leading to devastating, decade-long impacts on voting rights and the distribution of billions of dollars in federal funding. By asking this question, states will not have accurate representation and individuals in impacted communities will lose out on state and federal funding for health care, education, and infrastructure.
Holder’s assertion that asking Census responders if they are American citizens will lead to states not having “accurate representation” is the opposite of what Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach says will happen.
Kobach previously explained to Breitbart News how the addition of the citizenship question to the Census is necessary to ensure that states like California and New York are not given more congressional seats than they should have simply because there are more illegal aliens living in those states than others.
Right now, congressional districts are drawn up simply based on the number of warm bodies in each district. Not only are legal aliens counted, but illegal aliens are counted too. As a result, citizens in a district with lots of illegal aliens have more voting power than citizens in districts with few illegal aliens. [Emphasis added]
Think of it this way. There are about 710,000 people in each congressional district. But, if half of the district is made up of illegal aliens, then there are only 355,000 citizens in the district. The value of each citizen’s vote in such a district is twice as high. [Emphasis added]
Trump’s decision to put the citizenship question back on the Census has caused a firestorm with the Washington, D.C., political establishments, the mainstream media, and the open borders lobby, which wants illegal aliens to continue to be counted on the Census and represented in Congress.
