Democrat Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, who is leading field in California’s gubernatorial race, reportedly called the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Acting Director Thomas Homan an “A-plus prick.”
Newsom reportedly called Homan the name in an email obtained by the NTK Network, which came from Newsom’s government email address. It was reportedly acquired by America Rising PAC “[t]hrough a California Public Records Act request submitted to the state’s lieutenant governor.” The email was in the form of “a communication between Gavin Newsom and his sister, Hilary.”
Homan assumed the role of acting ICE director shortly after President Donald Trump officially took office in January 2017.
Newsom was reportedly citing an article by the San Francisco Chronicle that focused on ICE officials arresting illegal immigrants in California, and Oakland’s progressive Mayor Libby Schaaf warning illegal immigrants of the sweeps. In the email, sent to his sister, Hilary, Newsom wrote, “No doubt in my mind they will target us – the ice director is an a plus prick this is personal / political strategy, get ready.”
Earlier this month, Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a lawsuit against the Golden State in federal court to overturn its so-called “sanctuary state” laws on constitutional grounds.
Gov. Jerry Brown warned, “This is basically going to war against the state of California, the engine of the American economy. It’s not wise, it’s not right, and it will not stand.”
Breitbart News reported earlier this month:
In his first interview since the DOJ filed the lawsuit, which challenges the constitutionality of the California statutes under the Supremacy Clause, Sessions told Breitbart News that he was optimistic about the case’s prospects.
“We believe that we cannot accept the kind of restrictions that California placed on federal law officers, and we believe that their actions exceeded the Constitution, and we will win in the courts eventually,” he said.
