A student at Rocklin High School in Sacramento, California, is using social media to organize a pro-life walkout following the student walkout last week to promote gun control.

Student Brandon Gillespie (pictured) says he is challenging whether there is a double standard that allows students to walk out of school to advocate for gun control, but not to protest abortion.

Gillespie says he is using the hashtag #Life “to honor all the lives of aborted babies pretty much, all the millions of aborted babies every year,” reports the local CBS affiliate.

Gillespie says his history teacher, Julianne Benzel, inspired him to consider the walkout against abortion.

Benzel was placed on paid leave last week for questioning whether students against abortion would be permitted to walk out of class in the same way thousands of students walked out of class during instruction time on March 14 to promote gun control.

Complaints were made against Benzel by some who said her questions were “anti-abortion,” resulting in the teacher being placed on leave.

“[If schools] are going to allow one group of students to get up during class and walk out to protest one issue, would they still give the same courtesy to another group of students who wanted to get up and walk out to protest?” she asked, according to Fox News Insider. “And I used the example of abortion.”

According to CBS, a district spokesperson said he plans to speak to Gillespie about a possible pro-life student walkout.

However, student Naeirika Neev, editor of the school newspaper, objected to Gillespie’s plan. She reportedly is using the hashtag #EnoughIsEnough to promote peace and protest anti-abortion ideas on campus.

“Abortions aren’t really anything that has to do with school or students here,” she reportedly said. “They have their First Amendment, they can go protest about that anytime anywhere.”

Gillespie, nevertheless, said that is precisely the point.

“I would like to see if there really is a double standard and what will come of that,” he said, noting he will be meeting with the school’s principal on Friday.

The backlash has begun against the student walkout held last week on the one-month anniversary of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida. The walkouts were organized by feminist organization the Women’s March,  an anti-Trump organization with ties to radical anti-Semites such as Louis Farrakhan. Groups funded by billionaire progressive philanthropist George Soros and teachers’ unions also supported the student protests.

Parents in Connecticut hired an attorney to wage complaints against the New Milford school district for allowing its students to participate in the walkout. The parents said the district’s decision involved issues concerning “adherence to law and policy, the manipulation of minors, the misuse of tax dollars, and indoctrination and political activism during school hours.”

The Chicago Republican Party also filed a lawsuit against the city’s public schools, claiming its orchestrated student walkout was “political indoctrination, pure and simple.”
