A Gwinnett County, Georgia, intrusion suspect who charged an armed resident on Friday was shot outside the home and died beside the garage.
Gwinnett Police filed no charges against the resident.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the 20-year-old Robbie Morton was upstairs asleep when he awoke to the sound of strange noises around 1 am. The resident grabbed his gun, went downstairs to investigate, and discovered 50-year-old James Brock allegedly breaking into the family car.
Gwinnett Police Cpl. Wilbert Rundles said Morton “verbally challenged [Brock],” at which time Brock “charged at [Morton]” and Morton opened fire.
Police arrived to find Brock’s body lying beside the garage.
Fox 5 spoke to Morton’s father, who expressed gratitude that his son was able to fend off the alleged intruder, saying, “He just defended himself, thank God.”
