A nine-year-old Texas girl whom President Donald Trump asked the country to pray for is recovering successfully after undergoing risky brain surgery.
Sophia Marie Campa-Peter of Brownfield had brain surgery Friday at Boston Children’s Hospital where medical professionals say she is exceeding their expectations since leaving the operating room, the Daily Mail reported.
Sophia suffers from a rare disorder where the blood vessels in her brain close up, causing her to have constant strokes. Doctors performed the surgery Friday to improve blood flow to that region of her brain, but the procedure was risky because she had an increased risk of suffering a fatal stroke.
Sophia started a petition before her surgery, asking those around the world to start a prayer chain. Her request went viral and attracted Trump’s attention.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders passed along a special message from the president wishing the nine-year-old well during a press briefing last week.
“He told me to tell you to keep fighting, to never give up, keep inspiring us all, and never, ever lose faith in God. With Him, all things are possible,” Sanders said.
Sophia’s father, Scott Andy Peters, gave an update of her daughter’s condition on Facebook Sunday saying that she had been transferred out of the intensive care unit and is “getting back to her normal, goofy, silly self.”
“Her recovery has been amazing! Her nurse stated she has never seen a patient like her with no swelling after surgery! Her physical therapist stated that the day after surgery she looked like a patient she normally sees on the day of discharge!” he said.
