Evangelical Bishop Aubrey Shines says the controversy over reports that President Donald Trump called Haiti and other African countries “shithole countries” is a distraction from the truth that the poverty and corruption in some regions of the world is an actual cause for concern.
“Using an explicative to describe the condition of a place or people is certainly not the most sophisticated way to express something but nor does it make that person who chooses to use crass or unpalatable language racist,” Bishop Shines said in a video exclusive to Breitbart News.
Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) claimed that President Trump had referred to “shithole countries” in a discussion about immigration in the Oval Office earlier this month. President Trump denied using that language, as did two Senators present in that meeting, Sen. David Purdue (R-GA) and Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR).
While Bishop Shines doesn’t believe President Trump used the language Sen. Durbin accused him of using, the Glory to Glory Church head pastor says it doesn’t diminish “the merit of Trump’s actual argument.”
The Florida-based pastor pointed out that nearly half of El Salvadorian migrants living in America are living near the poverty line, “simply put; the American taxpayer is left to pick up the entitlement tag to provide basic necessities for this particular group of people.”
Bishop Shines also noted that President Trump 2015 financed a medical mission to Haiti that saw Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) a group of physicians to provide medical care to some of the world’s most impoverished people.
“While we’re a caring and a giving nation — America’s the number one contributor to every nation that finds itself in some kind of peril — but right now if we don’t take care of ourselves, we’ll lose America,” Bishop shines said. “And that doesn’t mean that we’re racists, it just means that we have to take care of home before we can others.”
