Foreign-born workers now overwhelmingly outnumber Americans in coveted high-paying, high-skilled, white-collar jobs in Silicon Valley, California, the hub of the tech industry.
New data analyzed by the Seattle Times revealed that 71 percent of tech workers in Silicon Valley are foreign-born, while the tech industry in the San Francisco, Oakland, and Hayward area is made up of 50 percent foreign-born tech workers.
Though not specified in the analysis, a wide number of the tech industry’s foreign tech workers are imported to the United States through the H-1B visa, which brings more than 100,000 foreign workers to the U.S. every year.
As Breitbart News reported, the H-1B visa has been quietly used by tech giants like Microsoft, Google, and Facebook to import a cheaper, foreign workforce to take highly-coveted jobs in the white-collar workforce. The H-1B visa allows for Americans to be displaced from their white-collar jobs, and sometimes they are even forced to train their foreign replacements as a stipulation of their severance.
Oftentimes, importing a foreign worker on the H-1B visa is the first step in a multinational corporations’ effort to outsource the American job, as the foreign worker arrives in the U.S., is trained in the job, and then is eventually sent back overseas with the job.
The growing foreign-born population dominating the workforce in Silicon Valley comes as nearly 500,000 Americans graduate in the STEM fields every year. Those American graduates are forced to compete with a booming foreign-born population in the U.S. and foreign workers who are imported by outsourcing firms and major tech conglomerates.
The foreign-born population in Silicon Valley is likely heavily weighted and biased to male, Indian nationals, as they make up nearly 70 percent of all imported foreign workers on the H-1B visa, as cited by the Center for Immigration Studies.
Though President Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, has led efforts to encourage more American young adults to get degrees in the STEM fields, she has not addressed the issue of corporations importing foreign workers to take those U.S. STEM jobs.
Ivanka, instead, has cozied up to IBM CEO Ginni Rometty, who remains one of the single largest outsourcers of high-paying, white-collar American jobs, as Breitbart News previously reported.
In 2013, the number of jobs in India for IBM surpassed the number of IBM jobs in the U.S., with Rometty laying off thousands of U.S. workers to send their jobs overseas.
In India, the average IBM salary is roughly $17,000 a year. In the U.S., the average IBM salary comes in at $100,000 for senior IT specialists.
Aside from outsourcing, Rometty also is one of the top importers of foreign workers in order to replace American workers. Between 2014 and 2016 alone, Rometty attempted to import nearly 25,000 foreign workers.
