A robbery suspect in Amarillo, Texas, was pronounced dead after taking a hostage then being shot multiple times by a pizza store manager around 10:30 Tuesday night.
According to News Channel 10, the suspect allegedly entered La Bella Pizza “with a gun” and grabbed an employee to use as a hostage. A witness said the employee “got grabbed by the collar. Pretty rough.” He said it was so surreal that the employee thought someone was just messing with him.
But an armed assistant manager quickly ascertained that the danger was real. That manager opened fire, “striking the suspect multiple times.”
The suspect went down and the employees worked to get get him away from appliances in the store. A witness said, “One of [my] co-workers pull[ed] him away from our dough fridge, where his weapon was when he was shot. And their was a lot of blood just smeared across the floor as he dragged him.”
A call was placed to 911 and medical first responders arrived to find the suspect in critical condition. He was pronounced upon arriving at the hospital.
After suspected robbery attempt was thwarted, one witness said, “[I am] just kind of shaken from it. Obviously, anyone would be. I’m still shaking at this point.” The witness also stressed that other would-be robbery suspects ought to learn from what happened, saying, “It’s not a good idea to rob a local store, especially in Texas. Like I said, don’t mess with Texas.”
