A man in Las Vegas, Nevada, attempted to enter an SUV carrying a family of five on New Year’s Eve but was shot twice and died.
According to KTNV, the man was first seen “hanging on to or being dragged by a pickup heading westbound on Alexander Street from Lamb Boulevard.” A family in a red Dodge SUV got the pickup driver’s attention, letting him know the man appeared to be clinging to the truck. The pickup driver came to stop and the man let go, only to turn his attention to the SUV.
He tried to get into the SUV, which was occupied by two adults and three children. The SUV driver grabbed a gun and hit the man on the head to try to discourage him. When that failed, the driver shot the man twice. The gunshots proved fatal.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that the armed man warned the suspect before shooting him.
Police consider the shooting an act of self-defense.
