Vice President Mike Pence proclaimed “Merry Christmas America” as he stood in front of President Donald J. Trump and a host of members of Congress gathered on the South Lawn of the White House to celebrate the passage of the Republican tax cut bill.
Pence heaped praise on Trump for the president’s “leadership … boundless faith in the American people and … for keeping your promise to see this Congress deliver the largest tax cut in American history before Christmas of this year.”
“Merry Christmas America,” pronounced the Vice President.
“I truly do believe, Mr. President, that this will be remembered as a pivotal moment in the life of our nation,” he continued. “A day when the Congress answered your call and made history.”
He added a caveat: that Trump has been making history since the first day of his Administration. He listed several aspects of supporting the military and border security. He spoke of Trump’s actions on the “world stage” including the fall of ISIS’s caliphate in Syria and Iraq. He then turned to the economy and the part that the strength of the American economy plays in national security, a point Trump made during his National Security Strategy rollout speech earlier in the week.
Pence called Trump a man of his word, a man of action, and declared that, with the support of the Congress, “President Donald Trump delivered a great victory for the American people. We made history today.”
He assured that they are “just getting started” and that President Trump and his administration “will not rest and relent until the forgotten men and women of America are forgotten no more.”
