Roy Moore: ‘Roe v. Wade a Violation of the Constitution’

Republican Senate candidate from Alabama Judge Roy Moore says the Supreme Court’s decision in Roe v. Wade “is not established precedent.”

At a rally in Fairhope, Alabama, Tuesday night, Roy Moore said, “I have said very clearly, Roe v. Wade is not established precedent. It’s a violation of the Constitution. I will never backtrack on that.”

“If we can’t defend the most innocent lives in our country, then we can’t do anything,” the former state Supreme Court Chief Justice added. “And we’re seeing millions of Americans killed because of abortion.”

Moore’s views on abortion are the polar opposite of those of his opponent, Democrat Doug Jones, who said he is “not in favor of anything that is going to infringe on a woman’s right and her freedom to choose.”

“I want to make sure that people understand that once a baby is born, I’m going to be there for that child,” Jones told MSNBC’s MTP Daily host, Chuck Todd. “That’s where I become a right to lifer.”

Jones has since tried to walk back his comments on abortion in a state that is largely pro-life.

Jones says on his campaign website that he “stands with Planned Parenthood,” the taxpayer-funded abortion provider that champions no restrictions whatsoever on abortion throughout pregnancy.

Moore’s campaign website clearly states his pro-life position and his specific call for defunding Planned Parenthood:

I oppose abortion, same-sex marriage, civil unions, and all other threats to the traditional family order.

Federal funding for Planned Parenthood or any form of abortion should be stopped.

Moore and Jones are vying for the U.S. Senate seat previously held by current Attorney General Jeff Sessions in a special election on December 12.
