Populist conservative Alabama Senate candidate Judge Roy Moore made clear his opposition to illegal immigration and his support for President Donald Trump’s plan to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.
During a rally alongside Breitbart News executive chairman and former White House chief strategist Stephen K. Bannon, Roy Moore took a hit at open borders and his pro-immigration opponent, Democrat Doug Jones.
“They don’t want somebody up there with an independent mind,” Moore said of the Republican establishment and Democrats. “Somebody who will do what is right under the Constitution and won’t follow along. That’s why they don’t want me.”
“We need to stop illegal aliens coming across our border,” Moore said firmly as the crowd of Alabama voters cheered.
Moore, like Trump, has made ending illegal immigration and reducing legal immigration a key tenant of his campaign to take Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ old Senate seat.
Unlike Jones, Moore has said that he will not only support Trump’s border wall, but he will support legislation to reduce legal immigration levels — the U.S. admits more than 1 million immigrants a year — in order to give relief and wage increases to America’s working and middle-class.
Jones, on the other hand, has vowed to block Trump’s border wall and has committed to supporting amnesty for illegal aliens which would give them a pathway to U.S. citizenship and thus voting rights.
