Rep. Al Green (D-TX) said in a speech on the House Floor Tuesday that he intends to force a House vote on impeachment Wednesday.
The Texas Democrat said he met with three other Democrats in his office who asked to discuss the possibility of impeaching President Trump.
The Hill reported:
“I will meet with them in my office and here’s what I will say: I will tell them that impeachment is not about Democrats,” Green said.
“That it’s not about Republicans. I will them that it’s about democracy,” he said.
Green added that he planned to introduce the articles of impeachment to the House Floor as soon as Wednesday.
“I will tell them that I refuse to sit on the sidelines while the world is considering one of the great issues of our time,” he said. “I will tell them that tomorrow, we will bring articles of impeachment to the floor of the Congress of the United States of America for a vote.”
Green has called for Trump’s impeachment repeatedly since May but has postponed bringing the articles of impeachment up for a House vote.
One postponement was because of the shootings in Las Vegas, Nevada, in October, and another came about a week later to give his colleagues a chance to look at his proposals.
The Texas congressman did not let Democratic leadership know in advance that he would bring up the articles of impeachment against Trump when he first proposed the idea in May.
Green most recently pushed for Trump’s impeachment in a House Floor speech on November 29, when he argued that the president should be impeached for retweeting anti-Muslim videos.
