A 29-year-old former New Jersey prep school teacher was arrested Friday for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old student in a public park.
Authorities charged Alyssia Marie Reddy with institutional sexual assault, corruption of a minor, unlawful contact with a minor, and criminal use of a communication facility, the Daily Mail reported.
Reddy used to teach English at the elite Pennington School, a private boarding and day school for grades six through 12 in Pennington, New Jersey.
She allegedly crossed the Delaware River with the student to have sex in a Solebury Township, Pennsylvania, park along Route 32 in the spring of 2017.
Reddy allegedly gave the student her phone number and added him on Snapchat in December 2016, according to police records obtained by NBC Philadelphia.
Reddy reportedly sent the student inappropriate messages in February 2017 saying, “I want your hands on me.”
Three weeks later, Reddy picked up the student from his friend’s house in Solebury and took him to a nearby park to have sex, according to the police report.
Police received a report of the incident November 20.
The Pennington School announced in a letter to parents that the school reported the alleged incident to the police after being notified of it, adding that the school is cooperating with authorities.
Reddy had left the school to work at St. Paul’s School for Girls in Maryland. The head of school promptly fired her and banned her from campus after learning of the incident.
Baltimore County police arrested Reddy with assistance from Solebury Township police. She is currently in custody in Baltimore City, Maryland, and is waiting to be extradited to Pennsylvania.
