Rep. Steve King (R-IA) says Democrats who support open borders and illegal immigration “have now deified criminal illegal aliens” following the shock verdict in the murder trial of Kate Steinle.
King spoke to Breitbart News’ Whatever It Takes radio host Curt Schilling about the outcome of the Steinle trial where seven-time felon and five-times deported illegal alien Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, also known as Jose Ines Garcia Zarate — who previously admitted to shooting and killing 32-year-old Kate Steinle while she was walking on a pier with her father — was found not guilty of homicide.
Steinle was killed in the sanctuary city of San Francisco, California which gives safe haven to criminal illegal aliens.
King said of his colleagues who defend open borders:
Sitting on the Judiciary Committee and the immigration and Constitution subcommittees now for 15 years, I’ve watched them maneuver themselves and posture… Maxine Waters, Shiela Jackson Lee, Bobby Scott, Luis Gutierrez, John Conyers, all those people I’ve sat with for 15 years and watched as they maneuver. I’ve watched them manufacture arguments about topics they knew nothing about until they settled on the position that they thought was going to suit them politically.
They have now deified criminal illegal aliens and … there’s a pejoraty against white people in America. It’s an anti-white, anti-Western civilization culture that they are fostering. [Emphasis added]
King said he was baffled by the outcome of the jury in the Steinle trial, comparing the verdict to the O.J. Simpson case, who was found not guilty of murder Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman in the 1990’s.
King said:
I’ve had it with sanctuary cities. I remember the verdict of O.J. Simpson and he had a 1 in 5 billionth chance of that not being his DNA and yet that jury turned him loose. And that was out in that same neighborhood.
And now here we are with the killer of Kate Steinle was essentially acquitted yesterday of all charges associated with her death. And that man, there’s not one person on the planet that would take the position that he didn’t kill Kate Steinle. So if he killed her, what are the charges that he should have been found guilty of? They couldn’t think of any they could agree with even when they had the choice of first and second-degree murder or negligent homicide? And they find him guilty of a weapons charge? They’re all liberals on that jury and their anti-gun, but they’re willing to accept murder.
There are thousands of Americans in their graves at the hands of criminal aliens. This is an example of a miscarriage of justice and not only that but all of the families that are grieving around this country are grieving for the Steinle family and themselves today.
King explained what he described as an irrational verdict where in any other case, the perpetrator would have been convicted of homicide.
If the jury concluded that he was not guilty, they have to believe that he was just sitting on a park bench and underneath it was a shirt and he picked this shirt up and in it was a gun and the gun spontaneously erupted one or two or three times … and that it wasn’t aimed at anybody and it ricochetted off into Kate Steinle’s body and she died. Well, let’s just say that if you take this unbelievable story to another level and let’s just say that the perpetrator met his end in a similar fashion, would we ever believe that that was just a coincidence? And especially if the person that found the shirt was someone that was a family member of Kate Steinle.
Though the GOP-led Congress is considering multiple amnesty bills that would allow nearly 800,000 to 3.5 million illegal aliens to permanently remain in the U.S., King said he has pledged to oppose all forms of amnesty, solidifying that pledge in a statement, as Breitbart News reported, and to Schilling.
“I just took a vow to myself this morning that I am going to oppose every attempt at amnesty in this country,” King said. “Ronald Reagan signed the amnesty act in ’86, he agreed it was a mistake after the fact … we should learn from their mistakes, their admitted mistakes, and not go forward with any kind of amnesty.”
“We need to establish the Rule of Law,” King said. My sanctuary cities act, that’s on the desk of Mitch McConnell, that needs to get to the desk of President Trump who wants to sign it. And that would be a big difference.”
“But that’s just some of them, mandatory E-Verify, build the wall, let’s build a monument in America that is of respect for the Rule of Law, which is an essential pillar of not only Western civilization but of the American exceptionalism,” King continued. “And if we fail to do that, this country will continue to be flooded with some of the 7 billion people that think they can get here and then they can stay.”
Steinle was killed while walking with her father on Pier 14 in San Francisco in 2015 when the illegal alien shot her. Steinle pleaded with her father to not let her die, but she soon passed away in her father’s arms.
Steinle’s death has not only caused a national debate on immigration policy, but the killing has galvanized a grassroots movements of pro-American immigration reformers and Angel Parents — the family members of Americans killed by illegal aliens — to demand a crackdown on illegal immigration and a legal immigration policy that puts the jobs, needs, and lives of Americans first.
