President Donald Trump floated a boycott of CNN in a message on Twitter on Wednesday.
The president highlighted news that CNN employees had decided to boycott the White House Christmas reception, to protest his treatment of their network.
“Great, and we should boycott Fake News CNN,” he wrote. “Dealing with them is a total waste of time!”
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders joked in response to the news that “Christmas comes early! Finally Good News from CNN.”
Trump’s relationship with CNN has become more toxic after the Thanksgiving holiday.
“CNN International is still a major source of (Fake) news, and they represent our Nation to the WORLD very poorly,” he wrote on Twitter on Saturday. “The outside world does not see the truth from them!”
Trump also singled out CNN for more criticism on Monday, proposing a “fake news” pageant.
“We should have a contest as to which of the Networks, plus CNN and not including Fox, is the most dishonest, corrupt and/or distorted in its political coverage of your favorite President (me),” he wrote. “They are all bad. Winner to receive the FAKE NEWS TROPHY!”
