President Donald Trump dismissed Bush-era Republican Ed Gillespie’s loss in the Virginia gubernatorial race.
“Ed Gillespie worked hard but did not embrace me or what I stand for,” Trump wrote on Twitter on Tuesday night after the election results were reported:
Gillespie lost by nine points to Democratic candidate Ralph Northam in Virginia, a state that voted for Hillary Clinton over Trump in 2016.
Trump pointed to four special election congressional campaigns as proof that momentum remained with the Republicans.
“With the economy doing record numbers, we will continue to win, even bigger than before!” he wrote.
Trump’s Twitter message was 215 characters, utilizing the new expanded 280 character limit rolled out by the social media company on Tuesday.
