Consider these statements from a handful of woefully misinformed House and Senate Republicans:
“I own a lot of guns, and as a hunter and sportsman, I think that’s our right as Americans, but I don’t understand the use of this bump stock. It seems like it’s an obvious area we ought to explore and see if it’s something Congress needs to act on,” said Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX).
“We certainly want to learn more details on what occurred in Las Vegas, and if there are vulnerabilities in federal law that we should be addressing to prevent such attacks in the future, we would always be open to that,” said Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL).
Rep. Bill Flores (R-TX) said, “I think they should be banned. There’s no reason for a typical gun owner to own anything that converts a semiautomatic to something that behaves like an automatic.”
“Fully automatic weapons have been banned for a long time. Apparently, this allows you to take a semiautomatic and turn it into a fully automatic. So clearly that’s something we need to look into,” Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) said.
Cornyn, Rubio, Flores, and Ryan are singing the same song being sung by the leftist media and virtually every Democrat, and it revolves around a ban on a previously obscure firearm accessory they knew little about and which had never been used by a criminal before the events in Las Vegas unfolded. Yet they seem to believe that banning the device will somehow keep another criminal from committing mass murder.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), champion of all bans, made clear herself that no law could have stopped the madman in Vegas. That sentiment, however, didn’t preclude her from introducing the Automatic Gunfire Protection Act. Her newest proposed gun control legislation would ban “bump stocks” and “any part, combination of parts, component, device, attachment or accessory that is designed or functions to accelerate the rate of fire of a semiautomatic rifle but not convert the semi-automatic rifle into a machine gun.”
What Cornyn, Rubio, Flores, Ryan, and others are giving us by even tacitly acknowledging this nonsense as a legitimate way to defend against evil is a glimpse inside the mind of a swamp RINO — a mind which puts personal agendas and politics above common sense and the best interests of America. To the handful of Republican swamp dwellers who claim to support our Second Amendment right to bear arms, the phony politics of doing “something” outweighs the reality of being snared in the Democrat’s web of gun control lies and greasy slopes.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) made her intentions crystal clear, saying, “They’re going to say, ‘You give them bump stocks, it’s going to be a slippery slope.’ I certainly hope so.”
Every intellectually honest American knows what the Democrats are trying to do and that makes it hard to believe there are Republicans willing to abandon the Second Amendment to join them. I do not know what they are thinking, but the fact that they are so eager to join the gun-grabbers in their post-Vegas push for more gun control exposes who these RINO’s are working for, and it is not the working man.
