A ten-year-old boy suffered serious injuries Sunday after he plunged 100 feet off the Canadian side of Niagara Falls in Ontario while attempting to pose for a picture.
The Daily Mail reports that the boy had been sitting on a side railing of Niagara Falls so his mother could snap a photo of him with the Horseshoe Falls in the background.
Police say the child tried to position himself for the photo but lost his balance and plummeted 100 feet into the gorge near the base of the falls.
The boy, who was on vacation with his family visiting the area from another country, hit his head after falling off the ledge, the Buffalo News reports.
Niagara Parks Police reported that they were dispatched to the area around 4:30 p.m.
Emergency medical personnel stabilized the child before airlifting him to McMaster Children’s Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario.
Doctors originally deemed his injuries to be life-threatening but later reported that the child is in serious but stable condition, BBC News reported.
