President Donald Trump’s first wife Ivana said in a television interview on Monday, while promoting her new book, Raising Trump, that she was the first lady and had a direct line to the White House.
“I have the direct number to White House,” Ivana said on ABC’s Good Morning America.
“But I’m not really going to call him there because Melania is there, and I don’t want to cause any kind of jealousy or something like that because I’m basically first Trump wife, OK? I’m first lady, OK?”
Melania Trump’s spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, issued a statement in response to the remarks, criticizing Ivana for seeking publicity and advancing on Melania’s role as the spouse of the President of the United States.
“Mrs. Trump has made the White House a home for Barron and the President,” Grisham said. ”She loves living in Washington, DC and is honored by her role as first lady of the United States.
“She plans to use her title and role to help children, not sell books,” Grisham said. “There is clearly no substance to this statement from an ex.”
“Unfortunately only attention seeking and self-serving noise,” Grisham said.
Ivana told Time magazine in an interview published on Sunday that she would only need two weeks to “straighten out” the White House.
“Could I straighten out the White House in 14 days?” Ivana asked. “Of course.”
The book, due to be released on Tuesday, documents her marriage to the president and her role in raising their three children together — Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric.
The pair married in 1977 and were divorced in 1992.
The president married Marla Maples in 1993 and they divorced in 1999. They had one daughter together, Tiffany Trump.
The president and Melania Trump have been married since 2005.
