Speaker Ryan: No Immigration Changes Without Donald Trump’s Approval

House Speaker Paul Ryan says he won’t push legislation to help younger ‘DACA’ illegals unless it is packaged with border protection legislation and also has the support of President Donald Trump.

That statement sets the stage for months of negotiations over border improvements, enforcement upgrades, Trump’s merit immigration “RAISE Act” and loud Democratic demands for a quick amnesty for the 800,000 younger illegals who were protected by former President Barack Obama’s 2012 “DACA” amnesty.

“We will not be advancing legislation that doesn’t have the support of President Trump because we are going to work with the president on how to do this legislation,” said at Wednesday press conference. “The president made the right call and the president also gave us the time and space we’re going to need to find where that compromise is,” Ryan said.

That’s a problem for Democrats, who are hoping to rush through a quick-fix amnesty for younger illegals, whose number may reach 2 million. For example, the Senate’ Democratic leader, Sen. Charles Schumer called Wednesday for quick passage of narrow legislation that would offer amnesty to the younger illegals — without improving border security or reforming immigration rules to help Americans.  “If a clean Dream Act does not come to the floor in September, we are prepared to attach it to other items this fall until it passes,” he threatened.

But Ryan still indicated he supports some form of amnesty for Obama’s 800,000 illegals.

This is a home that people know and they don’t know any other country as a home. I think there’s a serious humane issue here that needs to be dealt with, but it’s only fitting and reasonable that we also deal with some of the root causes of this problem because what we don’t want to have happen is another DACA problem 10 years from now. We want to make sure that we to fix this issue for these kids — for these young people — and address the root cause of the problem.

Ryan corrected himself, first describing the illegals as “kids,” before describing them as “young people.” In fact, the average age of Obama’s 800,000 illegals is roughly 23.

Ryan has a long history pushing immigration legislation which is designed to help companies, not American workers.
