Following the attack on House and Senate members at Wednesday’s congressional baseball practice, Americans for Limited Government (ALG) called on Congress to remove the vulnerability we all face by “immediately” passing national reciprocity legislation.

ALG released a statement, which said:

The vulnerability of our nation’s leaders to a terrorist attack like the one in Alexandria, Va. makes it all the more clear that a national concealed carry law needs to pass to ensure all citizens are able to exercise their Second Amendment rights. The Bernie Sanders supporter who shot Majority Whip Steve Scalise and four others was only prevented from committing a mass murder by the presence of armed Capitol Hill police assigned to Scalise. While it is particularly heinous that this was an attack on the very institution of government, it would be no less tragic if it had been against everyday citizens. Those citizens need to have the choice guaranteed to them by the Constitution to have the means to protect themselves. Congress needs to act now to pass national concealed carry legislation.

Breitbart News reported Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC-8) introduced national reciprocity legislation on January 3, 2017, which was day one of the current Congress.

Hudson was a guest on the December 13, 2016, Breitbart News podcast, Bullets with AWR Hawkins, where he said the impetus behind the legislation is not simply to correct the patchwork of concealed carry laws that currently exist, but also to stop the infringement of the people’s right to be armed for self-defense.

Hudson said, “I believe the plain language of the Constitution is real simple, where it says there should be no infringement on our right to keep and bear arms.”

Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY-27) is already looking to concealed carry as his personal response to the attack on the congressional baseball practice. He told WKBW, “If you look at the vulnerability, I assure you: I have a carry permit. I will be carrying when I’m out and about.”

We need national reciprocity so that law-abiding Americans can carry in every state for self-defense when they are out and about as well.
