A home intrusion suspect armed with a “piece of wood” is in stable condition after being shot by the homeowner in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, around 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
According to Lancaster Online, police say 46-year-old William Louis Stewart kicked in the front door of the home, causing the woman inside to scream for her husband. The husband then armed himself with a handgun and went downstairs to investigate. He reportedly found Stewart holding a “piece of wood” and then shot him in the chest.
Detective Capt. Mike Winters said Stewart was transported to a hospital and remained in stable condition Sunday night. He also said the homeowner who shot Stewart did what he thought necessary to protect himself and his wife.
Winters said, “The residents were very frightened to find someone forcing their way into their home through their front door and entering their home. The homeowner took action that he thought was necessary to protect himself, his wife and their home. Fortunately, they were not injured.”
Neither the homeowner nor his wife knew Stewart.
