Domino’s Driver Given ‘Time Off’ After Shooting, Killing Armed Robbery Suspect

On Saturday night a Domino’s Pizza delivery driver opened fire, killing one of two robbery suspects. He was then offered “time off” to recuperate while an investigation unfolds.

The incident occurred around 11:20 pm in Mesquite, Texas.

According to The Dallas Morning News, the driver said he drove up to deliver a pizza in the 1400 block of Springwood Drive and was confronted by two robbery suspects, one of whom allegedly had a gun. Mesquite Police Lt. Brian Parrish said, “One of the robbers shot a handgun at the driver, who returned fire as they fled.”

One of the two suspects was killed when the driver returned fire. That suspect has been identified as 16-year-old Wayne Osborne. He was found near the scene and later pronounced dead.

The second suspect–also 16 years old–was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery.

NBC 5 reports that the Domino’s driver had a concealed license from Arizona, which is recognized as valid for carrying in Texas.

On Monday, Domino’s released a statement on the incident, saying:

The driver is cooperating fully with local law enforcement and the franchisee told me this afternoon that he will be offering the driver paid time off to give him a chance to deal with what was certainly a high-stress situation that, tragically, never should have happened. Nobody should ever have to confront a life-and-death situation while trying to earn a paycheck delivering pizza.

On July 1, 2015, Breitbart News reported that a Domino’s driver in Hollywood, Florida, was also given “paid leave” after he shot and killed one of two alleged armed robbers. Domino’s has a “no guns” policy for drivers, even if they have a concealed carry permit.

Between January 1, 2012, and February 11, 2015, at least eight Domino’s drivers were shot, three fatally.
