New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo made more than $417,ooo in 2016, largely from royalties from his memoir, according to tax returns the governor released Tuesday.
Cuomo made $417,748 last year thanks in large part to the $218,100 he received in royalties from his 2014 memoir “All Things Possible: Setbacks and Success in Politics and Life,” which performed poorly in sales, the New York Post reported.
The 500-page book, which can be found on Amazon for $13.05 as of Tuesday, sold just 3,200 copies, according to tracking company NPD Book Scan.
But despite the book’s shortcomings in sales, it has provided Cuomo with a steady stream of income.
His 2013 and 2014 taxes showed he received $565,000 in advances and other payments for the book over the course of those two years.
Cuomo did not report any income from the book in 2015, bringing the total amount he made off the book to $783,000.
“This [latest] payment was contractual and per the agreement with the publisher [HarperCollins],” explained Cuomo spokeswoman Dani Lever.
Cuomo, who makes $179,000 a year as governor, paid $141,301 in taxes, or 33.7 percent of his income.
He also donated $20,000 to HELP USA, a nonprofit he founded a decade ago to help the homeless.
