President Donald Trump explained why he decided not to declare China as a currency manipulator, arguing against starting a trade war with China.
“What am I going to do, start a trade war with China in the middle of him working on a bigger problem frankly with North Korea?” Trump asked during an interview with Fox and Friends aired on Tuesday morning.
Trump said that he had a “good chemistry” with the president of China after his visit to Mar-a-lago in Florida, appearing encouraged that he would address the threat posed by North Korea.
“What am I going to do, in the middle of him talking with North Korea, I’m going to hit them with currency manipulation?” Trump asked.
Trump appeared annoyed that the media was reporting that he had changed his position on China, after he told the Wall Street Journal that China was not manipulating their currency.
“This is the fake media that does such a number … I haven’t changed my stance, China’s trying to help us,” he said.
