A robbery suspect who targeted a North Philadelphia laundromat dropped the stolen money when the business’ owner pulled a gun, chased the suspect and opened fire.
The incident occurred Sunday in broad daylight.
According to WTHR, the 42-year-old suspect allegedly entered the laundromat with a knife Sunday afternoon. He was able to get “an estimated $2,000” but his possession of the money was short-lived, as the 51-year-old laundromat owner pulled a gun and gave chase. A witness, who heard the owner screaming at the suspect, said, “I saw one of the guys running with a pack of money. When this guy ran, he told him three times, ‘Stop! Stop! Stop!'”
The owner fired five shots, striking the suspect “twice in the chest” and causing him to drop the money on the sidewalk.
Two of the laundromat owner’s rounds struck a bystander in the hand, but police say the owner will face no charges because he was licensed to carry a gun and acted out of fear for his own life.
The bystander who was shot in the hand is in stable condition but the robbery suspect is hospitalized as critical.
