On March 9, a slow-speed chase that went from Hollywood to the west San Fernando Valley then back to Hollywood ended with the suspect stopping his car by the Walk of Fame and smoking a cigarette.

The Hollywood Patch reported that “the chase began about 6:45 pm in the 5700 block of Hollywood Boulevard.” The suspect drove a blue Dodge Avenger into Woodland Hills then “south on the Ventura and Hollywood (101) freeways.”

The suspect “exited at Vermont Avenue, turned back north on the Hollywood Freeway and then exited on Sunset Boulevard, first heading west then north on Bronson Avenue to westbound Hollywood Boulevard.” He eventually “stopped at the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue,” got out of his car and was smoking a cigarette when police surrounded him with their guns drawn.

The chase was conducted by the LAPD and the California Highway Patrol.

Throughout the last few minutes of the chase, the suspect slowed and even stopped to wave at crowds on the sidewalk who were watching the chase. When he finally stopped, he got out of the car and engaged the crowds that were videoing and photographing him on their cell phones.

City News Service published a full video of the approximately hour-long chase:

The suspect is believed to have stolen the car involved in the slow-speed chase.
