Simon and Schuster VP Leaving Job and U.S. for Australia to Escape Trump

A Simon & Schuster executive is leaving her job to move to Australia to escape President Trump.

Jennifer Smith, vice president and director of PR and marketing, sent a memo to staff resigning from her position on Wednesday, the New York Post’s Page Six reported.

“My resignation marks the beginning of our journey back to where my Aussie husband … was raised,” Smith wrote in a memo, adding:

I will always stand up for what is right, and sometimes doing the right thing means moving halfway across the world and effecting change where we can — in the lives of our children. And while this decision is about creating the best life for our children, the election was the catalyst that made it a reality.

But her decision to move may not escape the same political climate that propelled Trump to victory.

Axios reports that an alliance has formed between Australia’s center-right Liberal Party and the populist nationalist party One Nation, and concerns about “immigration, political correctness and speech censorship, distrust of elites” are alive and well there.

Smith, in an interview with Page Six, joked that she might choose another locale.

“Well … perhaps Fiji?” she said.
