Many Democrats rushed out of the House chamber after President Trump concluded his speech to the joint session of Congress on Tuesday night.

A group of Democratic women, seen wearing white to represent the suffragette movement, exited the chamber as soon as the president ended his remarks that lasted just under an hour, the Hill reported.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), a red-state Democrat up for re-election in 2018, was the exception to the rule. He stayed in the chamber with a few other members of his party to greet President Trump and other guests, the Washington Post reported.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) also stayed behind to greet Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan.

The polarization in Congress was evident when Republicans and Democrats retreated to their separate sides during the speech, according to the Washington Times.

Members of Congress used to sit in bipartisan pairs, especially after the 2011 shooting of former Rep. Gabby Giffords just weeks before the State of the Union address that year.
