The Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) is announcing a new television ad buy urging Congress to redirect taxpayer funding from Planned Parenthood to other health care facilities that do not perform abortions.
The ad comes in response to a new video ad released by Planned Parenthood in which a young woman expresses gratitude for a staff member of the abortion chain who encouraged her to think about her decision prior to rescheduling her abortion. The ad’s message diverges from the organization’s usual mission to normalize and de-stigmatize abortion.
The script of the SBA List ad is as follows:
Voice Over (VO): What is Planned Parenthood really about? Breast cancer screenings?
Cecile Richards, Planned Parenthood President: “We do not have mammogram machines at our health centers.”
VO: Prenatal care?
Audio of Phone Call with a Planned Parenthood employee: “No, we don’t do prenatal services. I mean. It’s called Planned Parenthood. I know it’s kind of deceiving.”
VO: Planned Parenthood does abortions. 300,000 a year. And it’s faced federal investigation for selling baby body parts. Planned Parenthood doesn’t deserve our tax dollars. Redirect their funding to real health care centers for women.
Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards said her abortion company is facing desperate times with Republicans controlling both chambers of Congress and the White House.
“The stakes have become quite clear recently, and they’re very high,” Richards told BuzzFeed News about the new message in the ad. “The truth is, no one really knows what will make a difference anymore. But that’s why we have to do everything we can.”
However, Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of SBA List, says Planned Parenthood’s new ad promoting pre-abortion counseling is deceptive and nothing more than an act of desperation.
“How quickly Planned Parenthood has changed its tune,” she said in a statement. “After reaching a new level of boldness in last year’s election, the nation’s largest abortion provider has launched a last-ditch PR effort to rebrand as a place committed to counseling and providing resources for women to enable them to keep their children.”
Richards continues the narrative that millions of women will be without health care if Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding is eliminated.
“The patients I talk to are terrified they’re going to lose their access to health care, and docs and clinicians are terrified that this Senate is going [to] block the women with the least access to health care from getting any at all,” she said.
“This deception flies in the face of new evidence from Live Action, which has documented Planned Parenthood employees admitting that the overwhelming majority of its affiliates do not offer prenatal care – and only do ultrasounds in service to abortion,” Dannenfelser, however, responds.
Live Action’s new video series titled, “Planned Parenthood: The Abortion Corporation,” reveals former managers of Planned Parenthood affiliates discussing that most of their clinics did not offer OB/GYN services, pre-natal, and other basic healthcare services for women.
Despite the fact that Planned Parenthood has marketed its “pre-natal services,” Live Action’s undercover investigators were turned away for those services at 92 different facilities where the staff said they do not provide pre-natal care, but do specialize in abortions.
The pro-life group’s investigators also found that many Planned Parenthood staff members said the organization does not provide routine ultrasounds for pre-natal care either, but does perform them before abortions.
“Planned Parenthood spent thirty million dollars to try to elect a woman who is an extreme defender of abortion,” says Dannenfelser. “Hillary Clinton called for the repeal of the Hyde Amendment – popular bipartisan legislation to stop taxpayer funding of abortion – and her defense of late-term abortion in the final debate helped lead to her defeat.”
SBA List’s 30-second ad is airing in the Washington, D.C. media market during Fox News’ Fox & Friends and MSNBC’s Morning Joe.
Since the release in 2015 of undercover videos that alleged the abortion chain harvests the body parts of aborted babies and sells them for profit, Planned Parenthood has only been able to rely on progressive activist judges who have stopped at least a dozen states from redirecting its taxpayer funding to other healthcare centers that provide more comprehensive care without performing abortions.
Nationally, there are 13,000 federally qualified healthcare centers (FQHCs) – a figure that outnumbers Planned Parenthood facilities by 20 to 1.
“The American people elected a president and Congress committed to stopping taxpayer funding of abortion and abortion businesses,” says Dannenfelser. “We urge Congress to continue working towards this goal. Planned Parenthood is a profit-driven, abortion-centered business that does not need or deserve taxpayer dollars, and redirecting their taxpayer funding to community health centers would be a win for women’s health.”
Planned Parenthood performs over 300,000 abortions per year and receives more than a half billion dollars annually in taxpayer funding.
