Micheal Bloomberg-backed Moms Demand Action and Everytown for Gun Safety have dug in and are fighting passage of laws that would allow students with concealed carry permits to carry guns for self-defense in Florida, Georgia, and Iowa.

Both groups are also fighting a change in Florida law that would allow concealed carry permit holders to carry guns for self-defense in unsecured portions of Florida airports.

Florida is one of only six states that ban guns for self-defense in unsecured portions of airports. It is also the state in which Fort Lauderdale airport shooting suspect Esteban Santiago allegedly opened fire on unarmed innocents, killing five on January 6.  The FBI’s George Piro said Santiago traveled to gun-free Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International “specifically” to carry out his attack.

State Representative Jake Raburn (R-Valrico) and Senator Greg Steube (R-Sarasota) responded to the slaughter of unarmed innocents by pushing legislation to allow permit holders to carry guns for self-defense while in unsecured portions of the airport. Moms Demand and Everytown countered by launching a PR campaign against being armed for self-defense in areas that are unsecured:
