Larry Pratt, Gun Owners of America (GOA) executive director emeritus, told Breitbart News on Friday that national reciprocity for concealed carry “keeps good people from going to jail” when they unknowingly drive through an anti-gun jurisdiction that exists because of the patchwork of concealed carry laws.
On January 3, Representative Richard Hudson (R-NC-8) introduced legislation to secure national reciprocity for concealed carry permit holders, as well as residents of permitless carry states. Gun Owners of America quickly voiced its support for Hudson’s bill, calling for its swift passage.
In a press release, Pratt said, “The Hudson bill would ensure that victims of crime like Pennsylvania concealed carry holder Shaneen Allen do not face decades of imprisonment, merely because they took an erroneous turn into another state.” He referenced the “puzzling variation” of laws that make up the current body of concealed carry laws and stressed that Hudson’s bill would “simplify” things for law-abiding citizens.
Pratt observed, “States which recognize the right to use a firearm to protect yourself are the safest states in the country. On the other hand, states which ban firearms and which prohibit citizens from protecting their families are, without exception, crime-ridden rivers of blood.”
On January 6, Breitbart News spoke with Pratt, who said, “National Reciprocity keeps good people from going to jail when they are armed for self-defense and enter a jurisdiction that does not recognize concealed carry for them.”
