Georgia Tech police are reporting an alleged armed robbery occurred on the school’s campus at 9:20 pm Wednesday night.

Georgia Carry executive director Jerry Henry responded to the report by sarcastically tweeting, “This must be a false report as guns are not allowed on campuses in Georgia!” Georgia Carry worked with the state legislature to secure passage of campus carry in Spring 2016, only to see Governor Nathan Deal (R) side with gun control groups and veto the legislation.

Sadly, a law-abiding Fort Valley State University student was stabbed to death on campus on the very day that Deal vetoed campus carry. 13 WMAZ reported that the deceased student–19-year-old Donnell Phelps–was killed after coming to the aid of two females who were allegedly being groped and grabbed by 24-year-old Joseph Anthony Scott on the Georgia campus.

Then, on March 21,  a shooting on the Georgia State University campus left two wounded and served as a stark reminder that gun-free zones are not gun free.

Now an armed robbery has allegedly occurred at Georgia Tech. According to Georgia Tech Police:

The victim reported that while he was walking on the sidewalk of Ferst Drive toward Cherry Street on the side of the street closest to the Student Union, a male suspect jumped out of the bushes displaying a possible handgun demanding that the victim drop his cell phone. The suspect struck the victim with the weapon. A second male suspect approached from the opposite side of the street and began searching the victim for additional property, taking the victims wallet, keys, and backpack. After retrieving the victim’s belongings, both suspects fled the area on foot.

Bottom line–unarmed students are sitting vulnerable.
