President-elect Donald Trump’s spokesman Jason Miller isn’t telling reporters when the incoming president plans to announce his nominee for the Supreme Court, but he did say the decision is of “absolute utmost priority.”
Miller said the pick to fill Justice Scalia’s seat, which has remained vacant since his death in February, is “actively being discussed.”
“I wouldn’t want to go in and set an arbitrary time table at this point,” he said about when Trump would announce the nominee. “Obviously, it’s a matter of the utmost importance. The President-elect had previously put out a list of 20 very highly qualified individuals from which he would select.”
“I know they’ve continued to narrow that list down. He himself has said that’s probably a shorter list of five or six folks that are near the top that it’s being narrowed down too,” Miller added. “We need to make sure we get this one right.”
