A man who once ran a Bernie Sanders political action committee until he was brought under investigation for fraud by the feds is nowlobbying for Micronesian interests, according to a new report.
Cary Lee Peterson, a lobbyist who was released from federal custody only last June, recently registered as a lobbyist on U.S. affairs with Micronesia, Legistorm.com reports.
Federal forms reveal that Peterson will be lobbying the federal government on “reform of Trans-Pacific Partnership, amendments and changes Compact of Free Association (COFA), in addition to broader national security and military presence in West Pacific to address sanctions with North Korea.”
Peterson had been arrested by the FBI last March and charged with several counts of false certification and securities fraud.
Peterson also came under suspicion for defrauding actor Daniel Craig and many others in connection to a super PAC that supposedly misrepresented its connection to the presidential campaign of Bernie Sanders. Some reports said Daniel Craig lost up to $50,000 in the incident.
Peterson “defrauded investors by issuing false filings and press releases touting its purportedly lucrative — but wholly fictitious — business deals,” according to one of the government’s complaints against him as reported by The Center for Public Integrity.
The alleged fraudster pleaded not guilty to securities fraud charges filed in May and was released from federal custody on June 10 after posting a $200,000 secured bond, CPI reported.
Peterson has also been under suspicion with Micronesian law-enforcement officials who had been investigating him for unspecified reasons after trying to establish a medical marijuana program there.
