Ted Cruz: Remember the ‘Brave Souls’ Who Fought Against Castro

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) urged Americans, in the wake of Fidel Castro’s death, to remember the Cubans who fought against the Castro regime during the past few decades.

“Fidel Castro’s death cannot bring back his thousands of victims, nor can it bring comfort to their families,” Cruz, who is of Cuban descent, wrote in a Facebook post.

“Today we remember them and honor the brave souls who fought the lonely fight against the brutal Communist dictatorship he imposed on Cuba,” he added:

Cruz, whose father and extended family opposed Castro in Cuba, has criticized the dictator and efforts from the U.S. to restore relations with Cuba.

In an interview with Sean Hannity almost two years ago, Cruz said that President Obama’s decision to reestablish relations with Cuba was a “tragic mistake” and called it “a danger to our national security interests.”

Castro’s brother Raul announced his death early Saturday morning on Cuban state television.

“It is with great pain I come to inform our country, friends of our America, and the world that today, November 25, 2016, at 10:29 p.m., the commander in chief of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, died,” he said.

Castro’s funeral will be held December 4 in Santiago, Cuba.
