A New York City man accused of killing and decapitating his mother before taking a selfie with the dismembered head was found guilty of murder, prosecutors say.

Bahsid McLean of the Bronx was found guilty of second-degree murder and unlawful dissection of a human being in Bronx Criminal Court Friday, the New York Daily News reported. After the murder, he had reportedly taken a selfie with the body.

Prosecutors say McLean, 26, stabbed his mother Tanya Byrd, 45, to death in her apartment on February 26, 2013, after she told him he “was a lousy father” and needed to “grow up and move out” of the house, the New York Post reported.

McLean went to a hardware store and bought a two-foot power saw, which he used to dismember the corpse, police said.

When he was done, McLean took a selfie with the dismembered head before he stuffed the body parts into bags and scattered them in the neighborhood.

“If you can kill somebody, you should be able to cut them up too,” Bahsid McLean told authorities after his arrest, according to a video played in court. “If you can’t do that, if don’t have the stomach to cut them up, then you’re a coward.”

His defense team had argued that McLean should be acquitted by reason of mental illness, saying that he has heard voices in his head since he was a child, the Daily Mail reported.

McLean faces 25 years to life in prison for the murder charge. He will be sentenced at a hearing on December 5, 2016.
