South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley brought in a National Guard chaplain to pray for the state as it braced for Hurricane Matthew’s impact.
Haley organized the press conference to give an update on the Category 2 hurricane that already caused hundreds of thousands of residents along the coastline to evacuate and power outages across the state, The Washington Times reports.
“The best thing now is to hunker down, stay in a safe place and don’t move,” Haley said at the Friday evening press briefing before the chaplain ended the event with a short prayer.
“Heavenly Father, in this time of trial and stress, it truly is our comfort to seek your mighty power and perfect peace. We humbly ask your great blessing upon our great state,” the chaplain said.
“May your love in us outshine the darkness of this storm. No storm is greater than you,” he added.
A chaplain has been present at several meetings this week held by the governor’s office in preparation for Hurricane Matthew, Haley said in a press conference Thursday.
