More than 50 former Bush appointees endorsed Donald Trump on Monday, according to a Trump campaign press release.
The group launched the “Bush Alumni Coalition,” which aims to increase supporters and mobilize them on behalf of the Republican nominee’s campaign.
The Bush Alumni Coalition released a letter explaining the endorsement:
We, the undersigned, citing the need for bold leadership, a strong national defense, sound economic policy and a Supreme Court committed to preserving the freedoms framed in the Constitution, launch this coalition of former Cabinet officials, Presidential Appointees and campaign alumni of the George H.W. and/or George W. Bush Administrations. Under the leadership of Attorney General John Ashcroft, Secretary William J. Bennett, Secretary Elaine L. Chao, Governor Asa Hutchinson, Secretary John Snow, and Secretary Tommy G. Thompson, we commit our support for Republican Presidential Nominee Donald J. Trump and Governor Mike Pence for President and Vice President of the United States.
According to the press release, the group includes, “former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, former White House political director Matt Schlapp, former Veterans Affairs Secretary Anthony Principi, White House press secretary Ari Fleischer, former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft, former Labor Secretary Elaine Chao, former Treasury Secretary John Snow.”
