Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have now announced they have arrested and charged a man with the shooting of Charlotte protester Justin Carr.

Carr, 26, was shot by another rioter around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday night near the downtown Omni Hotel during clashes between rioters and police as police dispensed tear gas into the crowd to disperse them.

The victim died at a local hospital early Thursday morning.

Now, police have announced that 21-year-old Rayquan Borum has been arrested and charged with Carr’s murder.

In a statement to the press, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney said, “A real-time crime center was able to supply footage from cameras” to help the department identify Borum as the likely shooter.

“Currently we are still conducting the interview (of Borum) as the investigation continues, but we already have established probable cause and made that arrest,” Putney added.

The video referenced will not be released until the investigation is complete, the chief noted.
