President Barack Obama addressed the nation after a series of terrorist attacks took place in the United States over the weekend, but appeared unaware of reports that said the suspect connected with the bombs in New York was already in custody.
Obama revealed that the FBI identified a “person of interest” in the case, and asked American citizens to report any possible details to law officials.
“I ask that the press try to refrain from getting out ahead of the investigation,” Obama said, adding that “it does not help if false reports or incomplete information is out there.” He asked the media to only report what official experts revealed about the investigation.
Obama said that law enforcement forces would continue to investigate the attacks, but asserted that the Minnesota stabbing was separate from the bombs placed in New York and New Jersey.
Only one bomb was detonated in New York City, injuring 29 people. Several other bombs in the area were discovered.
Obama said that it was important show resolve in the face of terrorists.
“They are trying to hurt innocent people but they also want to inspire fear in all of us and disrupt the way we live, to undermine our values,” Obama said, promising to bring the terrorists responsible for the attacks to justice.
