The upstate New York challenger to Rep. Sean P. Maloney (D.-N.Y.) released a new ad Sunday that ridicules the congressman’s praise for his party’s nominee for president, Hillary R. Clinton.
“He says he’s a part of Hillaryland–bizarre stuff,” said Phil Oliva, the Westchester County resident running as Maloney’s Republican opponent in New York’s 18th congressional district.
“Here we have a House Dem in a swing district not only willing to campaign with her, but willing to go so far as to call her his ‘personal hero’ and defend her as ‘very trustworthy’ and a ‘person of high integrity,’ he said.
“Even her supporters know that she is not trustworthy,” Oliva told Breitbart News.
Maloney is campaigning for Clinton in Iowa, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Florida and New Hampshire and other parts of New York State, he said.
Oliva said Maloney was campaigning for Clinton so often that he missed important votes.
“He’s so out of touch,” he said. “He missed a 9/11 memorial vote to campaign for his idol in New Hampshire — posted a video of him in a snowball fight in NH when the vote was occurring in D.C.”
Oliva said he is sure his party’s nominee for president, Donald J. Trump, will win the district and Maloney is doing him a favor by linking so closely to Clinton.
Other Democrats, like Nebraska’s Rep. Brad Ashford, are avoiding Clinton, he said.
Although, Maloney has a fundraising edge, Oliva said the district is a legitimate swing district and it is rated “Even” in the Cook Partisan Index.
“This district has changed hands three times since 2006,” he added.
